hostid. What is it and how is it generated? Is there a problem with this in Ubuntu 12.04? What should it appear like when a person types hostid into terminal? I have read that it is supposed to give a long unique id for each computer. When I type hostid into terminal it outputs "007f0101", which is probably not correct. I have found this behaviour on both my desktop and laptop computers. It never affected my life until now.
I have been trying to install Maple 15 math software but it requires the hostid for the activation process. If this is a problem that can be fixed then I might be able to run this software on Ubuntu and probably help a few people on the way since it seems there are many with similar difficulties.
