I have a bit of a problem with boot up. I am trying to get Ubuntu to run on a MSI-K8N Neo4 motherboard with an AMD athlon 3500 processor. I get a freeze up on WIN98SE, WIN XP home, Ubuntu 10.10, 11.04 ,11.10, and 12.04. "Live" disks are dead. No results on 3 "live" LINUX disks from UBUNTU User magazine. Have switched from a IDE DVD ROM drive to a SATA DVD ROM drive with no effect. When it freezes at the purple or black screen I don't have the mouse. Any suggestions? Suggested solutions that I have viewed so far seem to assume that an OS has been installed. In my case there is no OS. Help would be appreciated.

New data point. Made a botable USB drive. No luck. I am beginning to suspect that I have a bad BIOS on the board.

Problem solved. Bios was defective. Replaced bios and evrything appears to be working.
