Hi,

I'd like to know whether it's possible to setup Ubuntu As Fat Server as well as Thin Client (Thin Station). It means that there's no harddisk at all at client side, all workstations are dummy machine and connected to the server (Fat Server).

BTW, I want to make Ubuntu can do like pxes (http://pxes.sourceforge.net/). Is it possible to do like that?

I do hope so, if that's possible where I can learn more?

Thanks in advance

I'd be interested in hearing any experiences and thoughts on this as well. I've previously setup diskless nodes successfully using Gentoo and their excellent howto (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/diskless-howto.xml), and am now considering doing the same for our LAN's mini-ITX desktops using Ubuntu instead.

Searching the forum yielded this single thread (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=11265&highlight=diskless). Anyone else using Ubuntu on diskless nodes booted over PXE and TFTP?

It sounds like you guys want to work with something such as the Linux Terminal Service Project (http://www.ltsp.org/). If so here is a link to help you out with LTSP on Ubuntu: http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/LTSPHowTo

Thanks for the link, Psylon. I found the same page earlier and am hoping to have our LAN running largely on LTSP/Ubuntu soon :-)

Not only possible, but fairly easy and just plain awesome. Here is my experience setting it up to manage Media PCs around my house:
