I am having a problem with fullscreen video in Ubuntu 12.04. I am ok when it is a smaller window but oncew it's fullscreen or maximized, the video framerate gets choppy and freezes. it will then jump ahead to sync with the audio.

I've tried VLC and the stock Video player.

I have a dell Optiplex 320. ATI Radeon® Xpress 1100, Intel Pentium D, 2 GB RAM. the monitor has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and is connected via VGA (not ideal but I haven't bought a new DVI card)

Thanks for your help.

*Update 1*
Turns out if I drop the resolution to 800 x 600 it works fine. (I wouldn't say that solves the issue since I'm not really able to use my computer very well running at that resolution.)

*Update 2*
I bought a proper video Card and the framerate is fixed.
