I'm debating trying it on my desktop at work. Getting linux complete with crossover office and write capability to NTFS for ~$100 sounds like a bargain to me. just wondering if anyone has given it a go yet.
They are also touting better wireless and battery management with the new release... also sounds intriguing as i sit in the airport typing this while the dual batteries in my dell drain at a rate of 10% every five minutes...

I'd just go with Dapper, Xandros isn't as great IMO.

I'm not looking to compare distros... I love Dapper. But my battery life sucks, and I cannot write to NTFS or run Windows programs with it without major tweaking or buying additional software. There are times at work when I have no option but to use Excel, and would be very helpful to write to NTFS partitions. If I'm going to buy software to do this, It would be nice to have the whole package out of the box. Which is why I'm wondering if anyone has tried Xandros 4. There is no need to try and convert me to Ubuntu... I'm going to be an ubuntu user for life! I love it. It just doesn't suit all of my needs perfectly yet.

There is a balanced review of Xandros 4 at distrowatch.com and many reviews over at http://forums.xandros.com/

Check the Xandros off Topic Forum, there are some useful discussion about X4. I checked it out because I was curious about all the hype. Stay with Ubuntu.:D

I have xandros home premium, and I like xandros having used version 2&3,but its a bit of a dissapointment in version 4,especially if like me you are a distro junkie,I like to try new linux distros, xandros 4 has a problem with its authentication process, like windows it has a product code and an authentication code but I have installed it several times and usually have a prob to get updates which seems to take a day or two to put right,I am sure they will eventually overcome it but its a pity they did not do it from the off !Xandros for newbies is very good ,its very easy to use and configure and I use it for an everyday system, you dont have to be too smart and it does most things that everyday folks want ,so its ok as far as it goes,it is mostly north American users, although the software is mostly good the management of the company leaves you gasping,I live in England and the dealers listed have not represented xandros for some months but are still listed as xandros resellers, xandros themselves are usless and I just happened to find their new agents who supplied me for £45 inc postage approx $90.00 .Any help I can give about xandros is available if you e-mail me ,for every day non geeks its very good ,but Ubuntu is something else !
Regards to you all ! Nick:)

Xandros is one of those win some/ lose some distros.
The good news is that its better for newbies then ubuntu, but on the other hand it is VERY easy to break it.
It's repo's are very weak, so most try to use standard debian packages... and make it like san andreas.
I find Xandros to be pretty sad when it comes to compatibility with the debian packages, really if you are going to mess with the debian system you might as well be ubuntu.
