I used to go to yahoo answers to answer question. (but banned because of I answered a person's question for a hackintosh and then said it was technically illegal)

Personally, I have gotten people ask "How I download a graphic card?", "Why is bootcamp not letting me run windows? (They did not buy windows)", "How do I become the admin of my school network", "How do I download the internet?"

But anyway, what are some odd questions you gotten on the same or similar forums?

How about?

How do I create my own distribution? Please explain step by step. I do not want any links to wiki pages.

Or similar impossible to answer questions like that.

Regards.

"How do I download the internet?"My grandma asked me that early on in her computer life.

That's not nearly as bad as the countless people who want to create a whole new operating system, but they don't have any programming experience, so they're wanting a good Python or Visual Basic tutorial to get them starting.

But I agree that it's annoying when people refuse links that would help them because they want you to spell it out for them in simple words. That's almost as bad as when people ask for only forum staff to respond. ;)

i actually had one tell me ,"you learn how to do it , then you can show me."

This was after i had spent days setting up gwbasic and all his 15 yr old programs to run exactly how he wanted them and remembered them running.
finding answers to why things like ctrl-break didnt work when running in dosbox
etc etc etc.

After a couple rude comments from his family and friends frustration took over and the last time he was given the standard answer several times.

RTFM.

I've had that happen quite a few times. Ridiculous tbh.

I remember reading that one when it was posted. Noticing the date, I ignored the post. I was an Ubuntu Member at the time.

The funny thing is that I just got an email today from Skype that said that they're going to be shutting my account down in 48 hours because a 3rd party tried to access it. Come on now, guys! Which one of you did it? Seriously! :D

That guy had several posts in that general vein, even threatening to have his son use his i7 with 8GB of memory to take down the forum.

I couldn't remember the exact details. As I recall, that post was so littered with obscenities it was jailed.

You'd be right. ;)

Most of the odd questions I have seen, seem to relate to paranoia.

Back on in the days before I knew what linux was. I used to answer in for related to the program Game Maker. I had people asking me how do I make a mmo with a server or networking knowledge.

When I worked in retail (TESCO) I once told a manager that I built computers for a hobby. His reply was and I quote: "What <snip> are you doing here then?!" (Managers usually think that TESCO and other supermakets, are the center of the universe.) ;)

Oh yeah. I remember now. One of my work mates said that he had a program on 3.5" floppy (it was back in the 90's) that could enable a person to alter their bank balance by hacking the banks systems. He then asked me if 'I' could use the program from 'my' computer and add a few zero's to his balance?! "On a bike!" was my reply!!!! #-o
