I understand that it is necessary to open some specific repos to install certain software. However, I am running dapper and easy ubuntu replaced all the entries in my sources.list file with breezy repos--and didn't restore the original. It's easy enough to make a backup of my list before I run it, but it seems like a) it should have used dapper repos in the first place b)it should restore the original list

I'm also posting to make sure it's not something I screwed up.

Thanks.

actually, it looks like I managed to get 2.4-- which is probably before dapper was supported. can anyone verify this so I can feel like a moron? ;)

Check if you have any repository which contains the word 'breezy' in the sources.ist

cat /etc/apt/sources.list | grep breezy

If you do, its all messed up. Generate a new sources.list from http://www.ubuntulinux.nl/source-o-matic

yeah, there was breezy in every entry. That was the problem.

Anyway, I'm figuring it was the outdated version that gave me trouble. My sources list is fine. I reinstalled Ubuntu-- for other reasons. This whole thread became rather useless as soon as I realized that I downloaded an old version. Oh well.
