First, Network Manager is that icon on your applet (don't know if its on the applet by default) that shows the wireless strength, and allows you to configure wireless settings.

Moving on, after installing GTKWifi 1.09 on Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake, Network Manager started acting up. I'd repeatedly have to deactivate my wireless card and re-activate it in order to get it working. That would only have to be done once while using the computer, but after restarting, it would again have to be re-activated. This process went on until I removed GTKWifi.

So, something's gotta be wrong here.
