Fixing a glitch with movieplayer?

Hi all! I appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge on here, I just have a question.

I tried to open a .flv video with movie player and it's not responding, how would I be able to look at the source or kill the movie player? Maybe noobish question but I'm learning fast!:D

EDIT: I am asking becasue I would like to be able to fix this without rebooting..

you could try using vlc instead, which plays just about anything you throw at it.

To kill movie-player, just open a terminal and type "killall totem".
