no sound on ibook g3

just installed "warty", everything went fine except I get no sound at all. at least that's what I think, have only tried playing an audio cd, which plays fine (again) without sound.

anything that can be done in setting or ?
btw it's a g3 800

I had the same problem I was able to get CD audio working when I installed totem-xine. However my system sound effects did work. So I had some sound working out of the box so to speak.

installed totem-xine and the cd plays fine in that, and decided to try a mp3 and that played fine.. and found out that I do actually have sound, it's just that I can't hear the system sounds or anything if I don't use headphones.

so it does work, just not as I did expect it to do from the start.
but hopefully something will be done about that loudness problem, if I'm not the only one who got that problem

I have a similar experience. The speakers are pretty quiet even will the volume maxed. But I can hear things out of the speakers. Not a big problem since the audio quality out of those speakers is very poor. Basically speakers are for playing system sounds and nothing more.
