View Full Version : [ubuntu] desktop icons and files disappear

July 9th, 2012, 03:43 AM

My desktop and files on it disappear and reappear sometimes. I'm not sure what is going on. A search here and google doesn't reveal anything. I'm not sure why this started happening all of a sudden. I am using Ubuntu LTS 12.04.

Some people say this might be a nautilus issue. Is there a way to make it so that it works properly. The files appear and disappear. Thanks

They still do it. Whenever I open the home folder, they disappear. Strange.

This is really very annoying problem. Could you tell me what happens when you access your Desktop through Home>Desktop?

The files appear again. It's quite bizarre really. I'm trying to love Ubuntu but if things like this keep happening, it's hard to tolerate. Any ideas?

I have this exact same problem.

Just random disappearing of desktop items.

I can access them if I go into the home folder/Desktop.

Also, they often reappear just when I enter the home folder.

I experienced this problem after saving a jpeg 2000 image file ( .jp2 extension ) from KolourPaint to the Desktop.

I opened terminal.

cd Desktop

rm filename.jp2

And the problem disappeared.

Try removing the most recent file which might have corrupted your desktop. I have no idea how a file can corrupt a desktop.
