Hi my HD recently failed i backed it up got a new HD and now neither my ubuntu 10.10 or windows 7 will boot up linux gives me a command line and windows tells me boot files are missing i tried the on board repair partition for windows and it tells me windows cannot run on my hardware and i tried installing ubuntu 11.04 from my cd but it gives me an error (exit 141 if i remember correctly) can this be caused by replacing my western digital with a seagate?

Edit: o and if i try to use windows on board recovery to restore to factory settings after it finishes and restarts my HD will no longer boot at all till i wipe it if that helps

Edit: ok just tried ubuntu install again the error is (ubi-partman failed with exit code 141)

Apparently, it's a bug.

This poster found a work-a-round for his. It may not work for you.

OR, you may simply have lost the boot files.
