Hi,

I am planning on getting a new Low Power Server, which should also be powerful enough to play 1080p over HDMI (x264 encoded)
So its main tasks should be smb, Downloads and XBMC.
Now I can get a D2700 machine or a e350 one for about the same price.

I would like to run that under Ubuntu or Mint and the question is
a) ist that possible (I am talking mostly about the 1080p playback) and
b) on which device would that work easier?

Thanks

If those are your only two choices, go with the D2700. I have an E350 and it plays 720p alright but struggles with 1080.

euhh, low power server wich can play 1080p?? you mean you want two computers ?
Don't buy a d2700 for 1080p, no linux support already for intel atom cedarview, just from kernel 3.4 the right resolution is supported, from kernel 3.5 there is some support of grafic, but no opengl...
for low power server, atom d2700 would be good choice, but not the best, better is amd fusion e450
