I have been writing c++ code and could only run my programs by compiling them with gcc and running them by typing ./executable on the terminal. I wonder how all the ubuntu applications are written using programming language and then converted into packages that can be installed in the system by following certain installation procedures. Give me some ideas or web references, tutorials on how to accomplish this.
Thank you

This excellent guide (http://developer.ubuntu.com/packaging/html/) should give you an idea of how to develop and package softwares for Ubuntu.
