Is there a howto for creating a repository?

Is there a howto for creating a repository? I would like to create a small repository in order to simplify installing packages not available in the regular repositories on the Ubuntu machines I maintain.

The searches I did didn't bring up any ubuntu specific information.

does anyone have a pointer?
