Hi,

Could use some help.
I have installed xubuntu 12.04 on an older PC (medion) with 512 Mb of memory.
Monitor is Hanns G 17".
Most things are hunky dory - works well.
There is, however, one particular problem that I can't get my head round.
On video reproduction, from both file and disk (AVI etc and DVD), only the top half of the monitor works. I.E if I maximise the picture, I only see the top half, the bottom half is blank. If I have a small window, if I move it down, the bottom section freezes, as the window crosses the centre line of the monitor, while the top half continues playing (half) the video.
I had a similar problem when setting up the computer. Panels I wanted to place at the bottom of the screen would disappear "behind" the desktop wallpaper as I moved them down. I managed to solve this by unchecking the "compositing" options in window manager.
Any help gratefully accepted.
Tim
