I know this may be a dumb question but I get very confused with the number of updates. When I peruse the list I don't understand which may be important from those that may not. The easy answer is to download all. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The updates you see are updates to software already installed. When you remove an application from your system (possibly an unwanted program) it no longer will be updated. The most important are the security updates. You can lock a version of an application in Synaptic so that it doesn't update but stays installed.

I accept all updates. My knowledge is insufficient to let me decide that I should update this and not that.
