Hi,
i tried Cinelerra on debian sarge first. It worked quiet well, even if i didn't know how to use it due to it massive functions. Later i wanted to give it a try on Ubuntu because i prefer to work on that distro. To make a long story short: it didn't work.
At least for my use as i wanted to cut .mov files with it.
Actually i thought having many codecs install while using mplayer would be suifficent for Cinelerra - but no, it wasn't.
If you improve, let us know!

So you've gotten Kino to work properly on Hoary? If so are you running a 32 or 64 bit version of Hoary?
I'm running 64bit and I can capture DV with KINO, but can't get it to do much else without crashing. Even calling the menu File/Open will crash it 100% of the time.
As to Cinelerra, this crashes even before I try to load video.
I've tried both of these on a 32bit Chroot, too; the result is still too unstable to be useful. I'm fed up with Ubuntu and/or 64bit linux...
Sorry to have to say that since I really like the Ubuntu atmosphere, if only it would work for me!
Since the original post I have fought through installlatio of Suse 9.2, Fedora core 2 & 3, and all that for nothing since I'm spoiled by Ubuntu and don't like those "old fashioned" distros. Miraculously, after putting back my Ubuntu disk, I was able to get Cinelerra running nearly prefect!
Kino is still just a hair's breath from crashing at any time, but if I load files by drag and drop, it can be used!
So I am back to 100% Ubuntu! ;-)
