View Full Version : [ubuntu] Will an upgrade remove my software raid?

2 questions;

1. I am running 10.10 and getting my notices about being unsupported, so want to upgrade. I have an external enclosure with (4) 750G drives set in a ubuntu software raid 5 and it works great with our family pictures, etc.

If I upgrade to the newest version via software update, reboot, will the raid setup still work? I don't want to lose what I have naturally so want to make sure that it's safe. Having more than 1T of data I can't simply copy it over to another external as I don't have that storage handy.

2. On the same lines, can I save the raid config, if this machine gets killed, I'm not sure if it's possible to simply plug the drives into another box and say Hey, theres a raid 5 here without reformatting or something.

Thanks
