I don't know if this is in the right forum, shove me in the right one if not.

Are there specific subtitle dependency packages or is it all done by the player because they don't really work properly in anything but VLC. I can play .srt fine in all players but none will play .sub or .sub/.idx. Xine based players do not show them and do not allow you to choose language. Totem crashes. Mplayer says cannot be found then loads the file and plays whatever is the first language and does not allow you to select any other language.

VLC of course can play them but subtitles are just a mess in VLC, they are so chunky you can barely read them sometimes.

So is there actually a subtitle dependency package I can reinstall/install to see if that fixes anything.
