Welcome to the UbuntuGuide.org (http://www.ubuntuguide.org/) forum, where Ubuntu users can discuss, contribute and improve this command-driven, community-built guide.

This guide is a merger of Chua Wen Kiat's ubuntuguide.org and easylinux.info, maintained by the Linux Center of University of Latvia. Easylinux.info picked up the torch with Breezy, shortly after Chua announced he would no longer maintain the guide with releases following Hoary. Both efforts have now formally merged.

Main improvements on Chua's original guide:
1) new wiki format
2) anyone can now contribute, making this a community-driven project

At its core, it's still a terminal-centred, command-driven How-To Guide intended to get people up and running with Ubuntu as efficiently as possible.

Its goal is to keep instructions as simple as possible:
Q: How do I do "X"?
A: Cut n' Paste this command in to terminal

This approach has its advantages and disadvantages. Some may prefer the Official Ubuntu (http://help.ubuntu.com/) docs, UDSF (http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Main_Page) docs, Automatix (http://www.getautomatix.com/), EasyUbuntu (http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/) or other projects. That's great, as we love these efforts, too, and think choice is good in the Ubuntu community. In fact, if you prefer one of those other approaches over ours, we encourage you to contribute to that project, as this helps the Ubuntu community, as a whole. The intent is to complement, not compete. Each approach has its place and value.

If you'd prefer our original Ubuntu Guide approach, want to get an idea for how Linux works at the terminal level, and want a guide that includes 3rd party repos, packages and options, then jump in and help out at UbuntuGuide.org (http://www.ubuntuguide.org/). We're interested in building a friendly community of contributors who like and believe in the Ubuntu Guide approach.

Because of wiki-vandalism, only registered users can edit the wiki at UbuntuGuide.org (http://www.ubuntuguide.org/). New accounts are open to anyone. If you wish to become part of our community and help, email Orvils at [ orvils _at_ gmail _dot_ com ] with "New Account" in the subject line, noting the username you would prefer.

A big thanks to Chua Wen Kiat for creating the original Ubuntu Guide at UbuntuGuide.org (http://www.ubuntuguide.org/) and for allowing it to re-emerge again at the same domain. His approach of a simple, command-driven user guide will be continued by this community-driven effort.
