I finally found a functional qualitative analysis software for linux! It's called RQDA. It's very easy to use and it works as an R package. You can find more info here: http://rqda.r-forge.r-project.org/ and here: http://rqda.r-forge.r-project.org/documentation_2.html#manual.

I tried to use WeftQDA and TAMS Analyzer before, but I could never make them work. RQDA works without any problem. Here you can see how I installed it in Ubuntu 11.04: http://linuxatuva.wordpress.com/software/

Thanks for this cantillon! I am starting my dissertation research and looking for something that will work well with Ubuntu. I plan to give RQDA a try, but I would also like to try TAMS Analyzer (the developer has just released a new version). Any tips on how to install TAMS?

I just checked the TAMS website, and it seems to me that this new version 4.32 is for Mac only, as it has been for quite some time. The latest linux version available on the website is 0.42, which is the same one that has been in the ubuntu repos for ages. If you wanna give it a try you can just look it up in the software center, but I found this old version of TAMS pretty useless on my system. Good luck with your dissertation!

Unfortunately, I had the same feeling about TAMS after looking around the website. I posted on the TAMS facebook page to see if anyone has tried installing it in linux and will update this thread if I find out anything.

Hello talking about RQDA, I've just recorded some new videos in English on YouTube.

I just found a firefox addon that can be used for qualitative text analysis. It's called Wired-Marker. It can be used to mark text and create a database with the text you marked. I think it was originally designed more as a bookmarking tool, but it can be easily customized to be used for qualitative analysis. You can find more info here:

It seems that it's been around for some time now. I wish I had come accross this earlier. I'll take a closer look and I'll try to write a tutorial one of these days.

I just watched a couple of your very informative tutorials on RQDA. They're very well done.

Thank you.

P.S.: No problems whatsoever understanding your English. (I'd love to be able to speak French as well as you do English.)
