I have having quite a time with my system. I tried openshot, and imagination to make slideshows. With openshot when rendering I get about 25% done then the system hangs totally, even the cursor doesn't work. With imagination same thing happens at about 50%.
I am running an AMD xp1800+ and 1.5GiB of ram.

Is there an easy way to stop the hangs? Besides adding more SDram, perhaps increasing the swap file size on the hard drive?
Something, anything?

Why you think it's ram? When you start the tasks how much ram is used, did you monitored that?
How big your swap is?

Test run 1 Imagination, completed without incident. 100% CPU, 13% memory 0%swap.
Test run 2 openshot , just opened existing slideshow, doing nothing else CPU100%, close program. CPU 5-7%

Opened openshot again just idling no slideshow opened CPU 50% with peaks to 100%
Opened same slideshow as before, CPU 100%, memory 32%.
Rendered video no issues, CPU 100%, memory 31%,
After render CPU still 100% memory 31%.

So I guess I do not what is going on, but it is quite frustrating.
