View Full Version : [ubuntu] Mount external USB/eSATA disks for a specific logged-in user

Hi all,

I have an ubuntu lucid LTS server acting as a simple headless fileserver at my parents' house. Since I moved out, I sometimes go back and attach an external disk (usb/eSATA, either or), and my brother sometimes does this too, but we've noticed that if there are two people logged in via remote desktop of any kind, it seems to mount for one user only, not the other. Granted I can easily fix by doing so manually, but my brother's not quite at the same geek level, much less my father - so I want a more maintainable solution.

My question: Is there a way to either automount-but so that it's globally accessible (and moreover, a link on each logged-in user's desktop, not just one), or, is there a way for ubuntu to "remember" the disks, and assign my usb disk to my user, and my brother's usbdisk to his user - consistently?

Thanks!
