If I wanted to play BattleField2 on Linux what would I have to do?

There are problems though with BF2 on Ubuntu Dapper thru Cedega.

Punkbuster doesn't work yet - so you can't play online on most servers.
Also some people (myself included) have it running, but the mouse doesn't
work on the spawn/weapons screen.

But you can try the 21day cedega trial and see if it works for you.
I think tho that Transgaming have taken it off of their site, you may have to find it elsewhere.

Mouse bug gone as of Cedega release 5.2.

Just a quick note, however, that while Cedega does support BF2 it will NOT work with ATI cards as the ATI Linux driver is incomplete.
