i downloaded skype after activating the canonical partners by doing "sudo apt-get install skype"

normally i just download from the software center, but i guess i was lazy

it wanted to download a whole bunch of required packages so i accepted

now when i run skype, hovering the mouse over the window turns the mouse from the typical dmz-white to some black mouse, and the fonts and images dont seem to render too clearly...

I might be completely off-base, but some of these things have cured my font/visual issues in other programs.

- Install Microsoft fonts. To do this quickly, just install the ubuntu-restricted-extras package.

- Use the desktop style in Skype. This should match Skype with your desktop theme.

Using a fully up to date Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit here, and everything looks perfect to me.

i had already done both

and it is so strange because when i take a desktop screenshot of my mouse hovering over the skype window, the mouse turns back to normal..
