When I try to access the Xubuntu Power Manager, I get this:

Unable to connect to Xfce Power Manager
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

is there any known workaround?
I just want to go to standby when I close the lid.

PS:
typing

xfce4-power-manager
or

xfce4-power-manager-settings
in the terminal leads to: nothing. nothing happens, not even a error message.
