My Fellow Ubunteros,

Last evening I spent some time researching how to get Skype video back up and running in both 10.04LTS and 11.10.

I succeeded in getting my video working in both versions of Ubuntu. When I did the set up, I had two laptops each with different Ubuntu versions. I also had only one usb web cam to test with. None the less what I did worked in both instances.

Today, I went to clas ohlson and bought a new web cam (9.95€). When I plugged the usb into the 11.10 machine I did a "lsusb" in terminal and it was recognized straight away. Then I just launched Skype and it still worked even though night before I was using different web cam (eg logitech). The web cam from clas ohlson was model DG-G03. It also included built in mic which also worked out of the box.

For 10.04 LTS this link helped me:

For 11.10 I used this one:

If your Skype video is not working maybe the above will be of value to you? It was to me!!!!

Good luck Ubunteros!!!

Ubunteros,

I was always under the impression that when the OP outlines a specific & detailed "problem" and then it subsequently is resolved, here in the forum, then the thread is marked solved. But clearly this is not the case with this post. I didn't outline a specific problem. Essentially, only links to online content was offered to resolve a potentially negative situation someone might have.

On the other hand, a reader may find this post and then elude to what their dilemma is. Now something specific is being offered and a resolution is being requested from the Ubuntu community. But thread is marked "solved" when in reality it really isn't??? It's closed????

Maybe we can add other choices like "Mini Solved" or F.Y.I. or "Solved-But just for me". Perhaps offering this type of help isn't a good thing and if one wants to offer suggestions or hints writing a wiki or how to tutorial is the more practical thing to do???

The latter could then incorporate a grading system and the more people get their problems solved through that persons help the higher up the totem pole they rise...

Or maybe it's more practical to mark post resolved but once a reader asks a question that requires resolution it gets down graded again to "open" because the problem clearly wasn't resolved nor was it at the outset because that wasn't the purpose of the post originally. Or the question from the thread could be cut & paste into a new thread?

Just some thoughts.....

Out of curiosity, did anyone get help from this post by solving their Skype video problem?
