Thanks for the links. :)

The funding drive for Blender video editor failed and it was even cited as a bad example of crowdfunding in an article: http://www.heise.de/open/artikel/Die-Woche-Abstimmung-per-Geldbeutel-1478542.html
Blenderheads wondered why the person behind this did not go through the proper channels, Blender Foundation/Ton.

Hehe, yeah I was just coming to announce the same thing :)
Maybe Pixel cup would fit better in the game thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1945254)? The game thread guys are starting to organize increasingly: http://www.facebook.com/LinuxGamers
Unfortunately Openoctave doesn't look like it's going to make it.. It's inspired by Christianity, so maybe the campaign should be promoted in some Christian web communities?! If anyone can think of a way, don't hesitate to just act and spread the word.

Drifter: A Space Trading Game (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/celsiusgs/drifter-a-space-trading-game)NEW
"What about Linux?
"I've been a huge supporter of Linux since the mid-90s and there is no technical reason that I can see why a Linux version of Drifter is not possible. However, I am unsure I can provide and support a Linux build at launch and I'd rather not commit to a timeline for it so it wouldn't be right promising a Linux version to potential Kickstarter backers. That said, if the campaign receives enough funding it will increase the chances of a Linux release dramatically but please don't make that the sole reason you're backing the project."
I can't see why he wants to limit his funders. As I don't do Windows in any form, I have little reason to back a Windows game.
more:
"Thanks for the Linux support despite my inability to promise anything at launch :) While I've moved to OSX in recent years I cut my teeth on Slackware starting in 1997 and used Linux regularly up until 2008 or so, so I feel a Linux version should definitely happen at some point. Cheers!"

H-E-double-hockey-sticks NO! I am a follower of Jesus and I know first hand that using any form of mass-media to alert Christians to helpful new technologies (in this century) is the fastest way to get it sidelined by naysayers. Also donating to such efforts is the fastest way to get the worst kind of 'please support our cause' spam. Having a televangelist call it "the devil's work" is far more effective way to get publicity. The best way to publicize this to Christians is to demo it to a church leader who will be using it.
Jesus made us fishers of men. Sadly, many of us prefer to use a pole rather than casting a net.
Thanks for posting it here, I'll be donating (anonymously).

Well dang, Zerothis.. Not even a forum for Christian music? :) Openoctave was created in the first place to help the project leader's wife compose Christian music.
Updates for today: Kinoraw reached their (very modest) goal and I added LITMUX (http://www.indiegogo.com/LITMUX) - A Novel Virtual Desktop Management System for Linux.

A bit late, and actually already finished (and successful!): http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1331941187/the-tube-open-movie
Just to at least have something more to look forward too. :)
The openoctave campaign is also over and was unsuccessful, but since it's indieGogo, they at least get some of the money. I really do hope they'll reach their development goals. I am no musician and don't know if there are already similar mature FOSS projects available, but it seems to me that this kind of software can be extremely beneficial to the FOSS ecosystem, just like Gimp, Inkscape, Blender, Audacity, etc.

Now you have a chance to crowdfund an individual GIMP developer: http://www.freedomsponsors.org/core/issue/78/add-other-samplers-that-properly-reduce-downsample-and-warp-images
Buovjaga
November 30th, 2012, 06:51 PM
PengPod reached its funding goal and Nicolas posted details on the GIMP image resamplers:
ITEMIZED DELIVERABLES WITH COST AND TIME TO DELIVERY
Most likely, I am not the most competent person to execute Step 6) and
Step 7). I am also quite certain that I am not the only person who
could do Step 1) and Step 2). If somebody else gets these done, I'll
do my best to ensure that they get the loot.
Step 1)
Add more mipmap levels to LoHalo (to be renamed NoHalo) and tweak
their use to make resampling more accurate for very large downsampling
ratios, and make the computation faster for moderate ratios. This
machinery will be reused with the new samplers. Lohalo currently uses
two mipmap (a.k.a. pyramid) levels:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gegl/tree/gegl/buffer/gegl-sampler-lohalo.c
At least three, and ideally four, mipmap levels are needed to produce
good thumbnails from large images.
Cost: 900USD. Approximate time to delivery (once started): two weeks.
Step 2)
Modify GEGL's geometrical transformation code so that resampling is
done, as much as possible, from top to bottom and left to right, in
order to better use GEGL's buffering system and speed up computation.
Cost: 150USD. Time to delivery: a few days.
Step 3)
Program the new GEGL LoHalo and link it to GIMP.
Cost: 550USD. Time to delivery: one and a half weeks.
Step 4)
Program the new GEGL LoJaggy and link it to GIMP.
Cost: 900USD. Time to delivery: three and a half weeks (to give the
needed formula computations time to run).
Step 5)
Program the new GEGL LoBlur and link it to GIMP.
Cost: 900USD. Time to delivery: three and a half weeks.
Step 6)
Enhance GIMP and GEGL so that the Image Scale and Layer Scale
operations use the “CLAMP” (nearest neighbour) abyss policy and the
tools that use samplers use the “NONE” (fade to transparency) abyss
policy. This will remove the border artifacts from the former
operations without introducing “radiating extensions” to the latter.
Cost: 650USD. Time to delivery: two weeks.
Step 7)
Fix the RaGaBaA (alpha-multiplied light) sampler data buffering system
so that the GIMP hack which consists of allocating a buffer storing it
is not needed any more, making computation both faster and less
resource hungry.
Cost: 1000USD. Time to delivery: three weeks.
Step 8)
It has been pointed out by other GEGL developers that I should
document the performance improvements with benchmarks. I don't want to
spend too much time on this (“I sponsored additional functionality and
all I got is this lousy benchmark.”) so I'll keep this simple, but I'm
adding it to the total. (Will split the loot if I get help on this.)
Cost: 300USD. Time to delivery: Two weeks.
Grand total: 5350USD.
Total time: Assuming the money keeps flowing, four months
after I get started, since the individual times to delivery are fairly
conservative and long numerical computations can run while I program
something else.

For what it's worth, I've added a link to this campaign in my signature, and I might also write a blog post about this...
