Hi,

I have the same problem and it is driving me nuts.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04, when I boot the screen goes blank. I can even hear the drum roll sound that it has successfuly turned on but monitor still remains blank.

When I close my laptop to let it go to suspend mode and open, thats when I see the login box and can login from there. But whenever the screen is idle for about 10 seconds the screen goes off again and I have to keep closing it for the laptop to suspend then thats when the screen comes back on.

I tried to set in power management, the option for screen off to never but the problem still exists.

Please help.

I had the same issue with a nVidia video card, but laptop has always worked. I had to use nomodeset for desktop.
