Steaming Stallman
Stallman is an animal? [Stallman is Monkey's uncle, maybe? :P]
Ubuntu Code Names Guide:
The development codename of a release takes the form "Adjective Animal".
So for example: Warty Warthog (Ubuntu 4.10), Hoary Hedgehog (Ubuntu 5.04), Breezy Badger (Ubuntu 5.10), are the first three releases of Ubuntu. In general, people refer to the release using the adjective, like "warty" or "breezy". The names live on in one hidden location---the archive release name in /etc/apt/sources.list and seen on the download mirror network.

Lets see, Hardy Heron is going to be the next LTS , thus the use of the name 'hardy'. When they set a codename, they try to use a descriptor that describes where the distro is at.
Dapper was effectively version 1, Hardy is going to be version 2. Think in 2 year- 4 release cycles for going from unstable to stable. So, logically, it makes 8.10 the first one in a new cycle - thus unstable, much like 'edgy' described the first of the version 2 cycle.
So, look at names that describe cutting edge, alpha/beta software, possibly likely to kill things on your system type of thing. 'Iffy icebear' would actually be a good one. :D

but for I... I have no Idea what an icebear is, but it sounds friggin awesome.
it should also be on fire... so... ignited?
flaming icebears... that would make awesome wallpaper. There's gotta be a better word than ignited for "Ahhh, i'm a bear made of ice, and I've suddenly caught fire!"
icebears may burn but they never melt, they're just that cool.

Crazy Crocodile :)
but if they are now following the alphabetical theme, then something with Iguana maybe.Note: The common iguana ({Iguana tuberculata}) of the West
Indies and South America is sometimes five feet long.
Its flesh is highly prized as food. The horned iguana
({Iguana cornuta}) has a conical (insert Canonical instead :)) horn between the eyes.

Hey, what's that GrumpyGroundhog thing?
GrumpyGroundhog is a process to produce an "Ubuntu-derived" distribution containing a crack-of-the-day set of packages. This distribution will never actually be released; instead it will be in a state of perpetual development, representing the very cutting edge of upstream and distro packaging.
So... How can it be a distribution if it'll never be distributed??

My friends and i were beginning to wonder about the names for ubuntu. Since it seems they were going along the alphabet we were wondering what they were gonna do when they got to more difficult letters. Here is what we came up with - animals came from http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/
Zippy Zebra - This one actually could work
Terrific Tapeworm
Ironic Iguana
Perky Pigeon
Jazzy Jaguar
Upcast Urchin
Vermilion Velociraptor
Quadratic Quetzal
Xanthic Xiphactinus Audax (http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/enlarge/xiphactinus-image.html)- This is what sparked the thread

Intense Ibis (a bird that feeds in groups)
Ideal Iguana (a lizard)
Inspired Impala (African Antalope)
SomeGuyDude
December 4th, 2007, 04:36 AM
I think "Impish Ibex" has the best ring to it. It's gotta be two syllables per word, max, otherwise it doesn't roll off the tongue that well.
Jazzy Jackal for the next one, then Kinky Kiwi, Lofty Llama, Mystic Marmot, Naughty Narwhal, Oily Orca (maybe skip the O's...), Perky Porpoise, Quirky Quail, Rugged Raptor, Snazzy Swan, Trippy Toad...
THE U...
...Vibrant Vixen, Zany Zebra.
By the way, if by the time we hit the U's, they don't simply call that version The U and put like an extra six months into it to make it the ultimate version of Ubuntu ever made, I'm gonna be disappointed.

Right now I`m looking forward to the Satanic Edition of Hardy Heron: Headless Horseman (thats one of the suggestions...):lolflag:

Dapper Drake, Edgy Eft, Feisty Fawn, Gutsy Gibbon, Hardy Heron.
So why was the first one called Warty Warthog and not Angry Aardvark, whats horay hedgehog doing there and where was Charitible Cheetah or something

So far I have come up with:
(nb. all can be interchangeable for obvious reasons, eg Impeccable Ibex)
Imperial Ibex
Immaculate Iguana
Innocuous Indra
Inquisitive Izer
Impeccable Ilisha
Anyone got any others? Maybe we'll get lucky and the developers will use one of our names. We can always hope :lolflag:

intrepid - not LTS so you have to be brave to use it
Not many animals beginning with "I"
Iguana - isn't opensuse's mascot an iguana
Ibex - Pretty Cool - they do have awesome horns
Impala - Not as cool as Ibex's
Icebear - According to the internet icebears aren't an actual species

Next fall, Intrepid Ibix. Before Hardy, Feisty Fawn and Gutsy Gibbon.
