As I am kind of a hardware geek that has only recently gained interest in FOSS, I just browsed the wiki to look at the hardware support page - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport

To say the least, it's almost empty, not consistent at all and very messy. Then there are other places like FSF's database http://www.fsf.org/resources/hw and the Linux USB database http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/

What about making hardware support a part of launchpad, where people could collaborate on things like the translations in Rosetta? I mean, there could be a formalized system of levels of support. I think we need a more complete and professional looking page for hardware support other than a lot of separated, half-empty and not really accesible web pages.

If it was made into Launchpad, other projects could register their support databases into Launchpad to improve the overview of the general FOSS hardware support.

What do you think?
