Ok, lets use this thread to track the shipit for the orders for dapper. Post here if your cds arrive, and your location. Also, post pics if possible of the cds.

So far, i don't believe anyone has recieved them
I ordered 10 ubuntu 10 kubuntu and 5 edubuntu cds, and live in basking ridge, no sign of the cds yet. I also preordered them.

Many people haven't recieved them because thousands of people have ordered them. People with slow internet/no internet and people planning to use them in offices and etc. ordered them so there is a huge demand. The cds usually take 4-6 weeks to ship but since so many orders are in it might take 4-8 weeks.

Yes, so far i think its only been 1 or 1.5 weeks. I mainly use them for distributing them to friends, who think there shipit cds are more profesional than burned ones.

I ordered 5 ubuntu and 5 kubuntu about 2 days after dapper released. (1 for backup and 4 to give to friends)

I ordered about 10 of each over here all three to be on the safe side for the intel X86 instead of the usual intel Power PC and the 64 bit versio. TO make it simpler to get it for myself. I still have plenty of the older ones here for the others to try and do a live update to Dapper.

ShipIt says mine were sent to the shipping company on May 30. If they take as long as the Breezy Cds to arrive, they will arrive next week sometime. But I wont be that lucky.

I ordered 5 Ubuntu, 5 Kubuntu, and 5 Edubuntu, but not at the same time.

Last June 22, I have received 5 Ubuntu and 5 Kubuntu with Ubuntu stickers. Haven't received Edubuntu yet.

Maybe its because I ordered Edubuntu late compared to Ubuntu and Kubuntu.

Hmm, waiting here, looking forward :-)
What cd's does canonical ship, the desktop-cd, and/or alternate cd?
I hope I'll also get an alternate cd, my acer laptop won't install from espresso/ubiguity (?), because it has to load with irqpoll-option.
Well, it seems I'll have to wait a few days.

Strange though, I live in the Netherlands, I read people in scandinavia allready have their cd's, while they are shipped from the netherlands...?

I just received my 10 cd's of Dapper drake in Quebec here. I am waiting right now for Edubuntu and Kubuntu cd's over here. 5 of each of those for the intel X86 brand. Once I get those I'll have 3 kinds so far over here of Ubuntu. I know that there is one before Hoary. But I was kind of late in getting that one. Lets see what Dapper can do when I upgrade it on my AMD K6-2 400.

P.S. It also came with stickers too to put on the side of the machine too if you wanted too. I don't know if the others here had gotten that as well when they had ordered it for themselve. Has anyone else gotten the stickers as well too?

The same time-frame as usual for me as far as ship-it cd's go. Pretty quick if you consider how many people must have requested these bad boys. It took me longer to get an eval copy of windows server that i was charged shipping on, so i'm content.

Doesnt anyone think spending so much money on producing and shipping cds is a waste of resources? Isnt it better spent going into the software? This isn't a waste if you use the CD's you get in to help distribute Ubuntu.

Keep your order and give them away when they come in.

This is a great way to help by helping to spread ubuntu.

Well with one of my dells tha I have here. I am in the Midst of desigining a logo for it out of Aluminium and using a dremel to replace the dell insignia hat is on the front flape. And there is a going to be a Tux Pengium roughly on that one. Plus something else. But its just placing it in a visible spot in fron or at least on the side of th machine that will be viewable even if its leaning on the side as a desktop.

The Aptiva is not so bad at least I can put it on the cover that moves out of the way for the disk drives and the CDROm bay area. Or put it near the IBM Igsignia down below. What would be cool as well would to be able to include it into the BIOS as well when it starts up once the power is on. I know that some of the Asus motherboards had that option to to do that. Where you can or could to display the image so long as it was not a huge file. No bigger than 250K I think. But that was so long ago.

I put one of my stickers on an old Compaq Monitor FS740 I have.

Coveres up the Compaq Logo now it says "ubuntu, linux for human beings"

Simply awesome.

Well it depends if there are large quantities that are being shipped out or being disributed. It'll make a difference. Since the price goes down in quantities being ship. The price between 5000 units being shipped and over 500000 units being shipped. And I am just using that as an example here.

Doesnt anyone think spending so much money on producing and shipping cds is a waste of resources? Isnt it better spent going into the software? Im sure most of the people who order cds have the ability to burn their own, but dont because they want a fancy looking one. Me included, maybe ill cancel it and burn mine.

Well it might have to be paid if they didn't mark it as a gift on the package itself. I had looked on mine over here. And it was marked as a gift. If it is not marked as a gift then Taxes and Duties will be applied. So don't fret over it. A couple of us here in Canda already have it and none of us so far had paid anything on it. If we did I think we would have sent it back or found a way around it. :D

okay thanks, I had heard rfom someone about taxes or duty might have to be paid even though the software itself is free so was hoping they were wrong. still waiting on mine, they were ordered on the 27th of may and shipped the 30th so hoping next week sometime :)

One Dapper Disc. I was pretty disappointed to hear I couldn't upgrade with that though, so time to see if jigdo can get anything from the CD to lessen the size of what I want to download.

Anyway,
Location: India.
Time taken: 2-2.5 weeks (don't remember exactly)

The only way you could upgrade to Dapper was through the repositories. And you have to change the wording from Brezzy to dapper in order to do a online update via high speed if you have it available. With the single CD you can reformat in install from it. I tried the same thing with my Aptiva. tried to use it to update it but coulding via the synaptic package and use the cdrom for that.

MS turned a blind eye to pirated copies of Office and Windows for the longest? Want to guess why? Remember when the free IE killed Netscape back when? Get it on their machines and that's what they'll use.
My daughter goes to LSU. She can download XP Pro, Office, Front Page and a lot of other software for free. Ubuntu is there too, along with a few others. I'm sure most US universities and those outside the US are the same.

I would agree with you on that especially with my older Aptiva and a old monitor that i have hooked up to it as well. THe old monitor cannot handle the higher resolutions that the built in video card . And seeing seing scribble on the screen at a higher resolution does not make it easier to view. I tried at themenuing system for ubuntu to switch it down to a more resonable size and still gets stuck at the higher res instead of the one that I need.

Im sure most of the people who order cds have the ability to burn their own, but dont because they want a fancy looking one.

Um.. because I have dial-up at home and work watches what is downloaded a little TOO closely?!

Seriously, it makes it a lot easier to get it. I probably would not have gone ahead and tried Ubuntu if it weren't shipped to me for free. The fact I got 5 also means I could pass them out to friends and keep one copy for myself around (I can always burn copies if I want to keep passing them out too).

I think their goal is to get it out to as many hands as possible so people are more apt to try it ... instal it ... use it and that helps spread Ubuntu's influence which could eventually lead to more commercially profitable endeavours.

I got my 6.06 CDs a couple weeks ago but haven't had the chance to install it (yet), so I've still got good 'ol Breezy going so far.

I just found it weird because I never really had a problem before with them. Since I had also a second batch of cd's to try both Kubuntu and edubuntu which came in last week. Which is great. The other two are for either schools or for those who like the kde environments. I just took a look again here in another tab.I figure that maybe i was my mistake or they just didn't have the cd's here is what is quoted directly from them. "10 CDs requested in 2006-07-11. This request was not approved, so no CDs were shipped." I'm not really angree with them either. I just wanted to get some extra cd's for some other firends who are looking for the 64 bit and the mac version of ubuntu as well. I'll try at a later date to order some more once I get rid of the ones that I have alread here.

Thats the beauty of having a PO Box, only downside is you have to go to the PO and collect your mail from the box. There are no street deliveries on Sat which I don't use anyway.

Aah, an option I didn't consider.
Greetings from a bitterly cold & wet Cape Town. You'll get it soon enough, and believe me, there's plenty of rain to spare :-)

I was wondering over here. Is it normal to get refused another shipment of cd from Connical? I had made another orer so I can get the 64 bit version for my friend over here. And they mentioned in my account that it was refused? Has anyone else gooten that in theirs in the last little while? On any other distros of Ubuntu?

I just checked on the order I put in on July 14 and it was approved and sent to the shippers on July 19. My first order was 10 Ubuntu and this time I ordered 8 Ubuntu, 1 Mac and 1 64 bit.

I just recieved my Ubuntu shipment 10 minutes ago! I was so excited. I was surprised to see I recieved stickers, thank you Canonical.

It took me about 23 weeks to recieve 92 CDs (Alberta, Canada). It was well worth the wait. I will be distrobuting them to the computer science students at my university.

Halitech in all the orders taht you had place was there one that was refused by any chance? The reason why I was asking this. I had made a total of four different orders. the earlest one was for Hoary Hedgehog and the last one that I wanted to get ship which had the 64 bit and the Mac version of Ubunu. A total of 4 orders. It was my last one which I had mentioned that was refused shipment. The other three came in no problem which included the Kubuntu and Edubuntu previous to the one that was refused. That is why I was asking.

Received on July 25, 2006:
1 Live CD (x86)
1 Live CD (x64)

x86 Live CD does not work. When I tried to reinstall with it, it could not even load the installer.
Doubt the x64 works either, but there's benefit of the doubt.

The livecd(desktop) installer is not the best out there, I had endless hassles with it. Ended up using the alternate cd.

Hi,

No, I've never ordered any cds before as I just started using it back in around Feb of this year. Maybe they only let you order so many before they cut you off? Is there an email address on the shipit site you could try to contract and ask?

Does that mean I'll have to download the alternate? I ordered the ones off Shipit. They were shipped on June 20, and I still haven't got them. Up in Canada.
