Hello all,

I am semi experienced in Ubuntu, and have been a user for around a year and a half. I am currently on a Thinkpad t420 and need some assistance with controlling some functions that are locked for security reasons.

I love that linux kernel handles the hardware better than any operating system, however I noticed that it cannot handle itself under a heavy load ie. Game emulation, compiling, and software development. For the specs of my computer I am running

Intel® Core™ i7-2620M CPU @ 2.70GHz × 4
Integrated graphics Intel 3000
Standard hardware that comes with t420 laptop.
Ubuntu 11.10, 64 bit

Now I know that the CPU is rated to at least handle temps at 84 degrees C, but the fans do not adjust to higher speeds to compensate for the load, when it does so in Windows 7. I have read a lot of other forums, but they do not help at all. I have tried all of the sensor sudo commands and other options.

I need someone who can tell me how to handle temps while at a higher load much like the Turbo boost option in Windows 7. Also I use a fan pad, but it does not help with CPU temps.
