View Full Version : [ubuntu] Booting with Ubuntu USB live through to external monitor?

I have a laptop with a broken monitor which seemingly died from a drop but the rest of the machine seems to boot i.e. fans spinning and disks powering up.

However at the time of breakage the computer HDD was formated so there is no valid OS at all on the HDD. I would like to hook up an external monitor and boot from an Ubuntu live USB to install on the HDD to ensure that the damage is isolated to the screen.

Can I do this with Ubuntu?

Machine Model: Dell XPS 1530

I would imagine it would work. My old laptop's screen broke, and I simply attached a monitor to it.

Give it a try. The worst that can happen is it doesn't boot from your Live USB.
