Is it an idea to use Darwin instead of GNU/Linux as the base for Ubuntu PPC? I know the difference is quite big, but it would result in much better hardware support for PPC users. As well Flash and Java would then be available.
The Fink project ported the apt tools already long time ago, so it would be similar to Debian I think.
What do you guys think???

I think that the darwin kernel is not matching with the Ubuntu approach
But it is my own opinion

I have booted and installed the Darwin x86 distribution -- this is the shell interface as it is illegal for me to boot and install the developer image that includes the gui. Much as may want to run Mac OSX on a PC just for fun, it isn't going to happen.

I did run pearpc for a while but it took eight hours to install and fifteen minutes to boot once installed.

1. Driver support is very poor; Darwin is used most often on Apple hardware.
2. You can run Ubuntu GNU/Linux on PPC; why run Ubuntu GNU/Darwin?
3. All applications written for Linux that are in universe and main (around 15000) would have to be ported to a completely different architechture.
4. Flash and Java for Mac OS X are probably written using Cocoa/Carbon and Aqua, and these are not free, so they wouldn't work on Ubuntu GNU/Darwin; they will never be included unless Apple decides to free them.
5. You would have a hard time running most Mac OS X applications for the same reasons as in [4].

Ask this guy. (http://www.opendarwin.org/~bbraun/) And may I direct your attention to those articles concerning Apple and its so-called commitment to open source.

Google 'Rob Braun'. Look for him at the Open Darwin project. You're in for a shocker.

I dislike the idea of working on an open-source kernel that Apple can take from without giving back.
