New user to ubuntu 11.10, had been using linux mint from last year.
when I play music on my desktop, its breaking which is very irritating.
I have updated everything including drivers and players. My PC runs on dual boot with Windows and sound is working fine in windows.
Please suggest what is the problem.

Breaking how? Are you just no getting any sound, or are there periodic interruptions?

What sound hardware do you have?

If your sound is "crackling" or breaking up, see this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting

Following is my sound card:
Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family)

I have tried both methods mentioned in above link, still the the problem persists.
