The importance poll thread is closed:

1. What was it for? Why was the reason behind it so secret?

2. I had mentioned a conversation on the sounder regarding Community communication.

Matt Zimmerman chimed in and it is very intersting:

As am I. This is starting to happen in small steps through ad-hoc liaisons
who help to bridge the gap. For example, while some of us have been
brainstorming ideas for Edgy in the wiki, others have done the same
independently in the forums. Brent Larsen was kind enough to email me with
a summary of the discussion there, so that I can respond and fold the
relevant ideas into my own lists. Likewise, some forum users participate in
Malone and relate experiences from other forum users."

Is it time to create a team of people who can do some of the relating to the Ubuntu devs from the Edgy forums?

As well there is work in the Ubuntu Weekly newsletter. People from the forums have got to contribute to that. Many other people from the rest of the community miss out on what happens here on the forums.

Maybe the same team, or another, different team?

(As soon as Ubuntu Center picks a name, I will submit that project's event to the newsletter wiki ideas page, since it a truly original peice of software. Any other news people find intersting? Submit here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuWeeklyNewsletter/Ideas)

It wasn't a secret, since we stated that we just wanted to know what forum users and others in the community thought. It had a purpose, and that was to inform forum staff. We wanted to hear from the community, and just wanted to grab a little attention with a question and a poll. :KS

It would be wonderful if users wanted to create their own teams to talk between the forums and the other parts of the community. Currently, we have no staff available to oversee an official forum team, but perhaps people in the community could start one. :KS

I don't think that is quite right. From what I read in this post [1], the answer to his question is "it is a secret, and when we're ready, we'll tell you".

By the way, I'd love some input on the mailing list thread from sounder that Azz posted.

Sorry you felt that way. I will ask Kiwi to be less mysterious when he posts. But really, as Ubuntu-Geek said in the beginning of the post, we just wanted to get an idea. Nothing more than that. :p I'm sorry that a few people really have a tough time believing we're not forming skunkworks operations. :p We're really not all that exciting. LOL

As for the second part, as I said before, if the community would like to create a team, that's cool, we just don't have any available staff to head an official forum team. Other than that, I have no further input at this time.

No worries, there wasn't any feeling involved. I just saw a few of those mysterious comments so I thought I'd raise it. I'm totally ok with secrets, they're great.

Ah, sorry, forgot to reply to this bit - it wasn't so much the part that Azz talked about in terms of taking ideas on the forum for Ubuntu development and letting the developers know, it seems someone has already stepped up to the mark and done a good job on this.

The part of the thread I was referring to was generally my ideas and wish to bring the forums and the other parts of the Ubuntu technical support community closer, in particular by focusing around a strong central documentation resource.

After reading the whole thing, I had replied that I had no further input at this time. Sorry for not making the distinction between the two clear.

That's cool, of course, but if anyone else has any ideas, please chime in on that thread! Thanks.

Hi KiwiNZ,

I didn't really want to know. I was just reading that thread and saw this one so I thought I'd point it out. As I said already, no worries.

It must be the words you picked:

I'm just curious as to what other people think... Thats all I can say right now..

Whatever.

I'll reply to the sounder email you sent me in due time.

Great. 'cant wait. There is no big rush. It's just that most of the community is getting ready to tackle new challenges right now and this is a great time to get the forums more involved in the community-oriented projects and vice versa.
