Tearing video playback seems to be a problem. Just look on the VLC forums.
Tearing is when the bottom of your monitor image is out of sync with the top. It looks like someone cut the bottom off the image and moved it left or right.

I want to share the fix with you.

I'm running the catalyst drivers for my AMD 5750 on Lubuntu oneiric.

The fix is to use the GL output on mplayer. Any of the other video outputs have tearing. Don't use VLC.

You don't need to turn on the Catalyst tear free desktop.
