8gb memory limitation 64-bit os

Hey i have a ThinkPad w510 with 4 available slots for memory and i have got 16 gb of RAM to put in it, but when i boot up it only reads 8 gb of total memory. Is there anything i have to do with enabling PAE? and help would be great, really trying to use all 16 gb.

Usually you don't need to do anything except installing a 64-bit OS.
Go into BIOS and check what capacity does BIOS see. If it sees only 8GB, it doesn't depend on the OS.
You might need BIOS update, or something.
