Hi People:

I know that Ubuntu is built on Gnome, But I have some basic questions about Ubuntu and Gnome, so here goes.

1. Why would you use a Gnome session over a Ubuntu session?
2. If you log into Gnome do you have access to your Ubuntu files?
3. Are the terminal commands the same in both sessions?
4. If I were logged into a Gnome session and installed a package would it show up in Ubuntu?

1. personal preference.
2. Yes, it's still one and the same operating system, you are only using a different graphical shell on top of it.
3. yes, same answer as 2.
4. yes, again same answer as 2.

Thanks McDuck for the answers just wasn't sure as to why you would use one over the other. I know I have been playing around in Gnome a little more as I do not really care for Unity in Ubuntu. The Gnome Desktop looks as though I guy could get more down in it with less button clicking, and it appears to be a bit more customizable.
