Hay i just upgraded and got rid of the widgets ( unity) and got back to the dropdouns of the previous versions, But is there a way to further make it like the old ver? Like my close button on the right top instead of left top?
I'm haveing a problem trying to get a cannon printer setup to work too.Iit worked before because I could select my manufacturer and model manually but I cant seem to do this as a usb printer now .
I trying to figure out how to change my color scheme at the top of my screen now from black too.
Any body that can help with this stuff so far?

I am starting to really wish I didn't upgrade. The software gurus that write the code need to make this easily configurable . Keep makeing the same thing but with extra setup options that can be selectable to add or change things that " upgrade it ". Many of us want the same thing but don't want a learning curve. After all if I didn't like it I wouldn't use it or upgrade.

See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1859961. (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1859961)
Also you can install Ubuntu tweak and try to cusumize your system with it.

What desktop manager are you running now?
What Release Ubuntu are you using now?

I've found "Gnome Classic" my favorite. But frankly I have been going back to straight "Ubuntu" (UNITY) from time to time and am finding it more usable (even preferable - shudder) at times.

I'm useing ubuntu 11.1 and I set as classic ( not unity that totally confuses me). I seem to not have full access to my setup stuff. For example I have applications and places at the top left thats all. Its as if I have no access to administrative settings although It says my user is admin. I have tried system settings but seems as though some settings are missing.

Quite a few people in this situation have gone to Xubuntu or try installing Xfce-desktop from the repositories. It will feel more 'traditional' although not identical to Gnome 2. I suspect making the guts of Ubuntu more inaccessible was a conscious choice. Making it harder for users with more confidence than knowledge to make changes to the critical parts of their systems may reduce "I broke my system!!! Ubuntu Sukkkssss!!!" incidents. Of course for those that do actually know what they're doing.....

Well I am an experienced windoz user but novice ubuntu user (only 3 years) I have no command line ability. I need it to be simalar to the old version so I can easily use it. I have spent about a day messing around and did a complete fresh install. I really wish I didn't start now ( I thought I left this kind of stuff behind with MS) although it is functional it is slow and frustrating (because nothing is where it is supposed to be). I think that there is administrative settings that I cant access that will fix my frustrations but till I find out I am doomed to be frustrated. thanks anyway

That's a turorial on Unity, not that you'll ever need it, but just to get through the day sometimes, I grudgingly go and read a bit, it didn't take long and I actually know how to use it now. It has some good points. I heard that we are moving into the Icon based world of iPads and Smartphones. I guess that is a fitting explanation, but it's forced on us by Canonical and it would not surprise me to see it backfire like "Coke Classic" or some such. Life goes on.................

Well Id like to see them code folks stay with ubuntu CLASSIC and do the unity as "an upgrade " for those that wish to live in that world . I have had to learn dos 3., 5,6 win 3.1,95,98,2k and thats where I quit. So here is the difference and perhaps the downfall of ubuntu vs Microsofy. There they have some one at the helm directing the work and keeping on the path, here I don't know whats going on. I know I don't want to learn another operating system. Although I do believe that computers ( as we know them now ) will be gone in 10 years.

I may I thought I was missing something as to how to configure things but perhaps I just need to get with the program and lovingly accept what someone has decided will be the future.Perhaps we need to start calling this the new Microsoft windows platform......
