Some of you that read my previous threads know that I somehow downloaded V11 just before the release of V12. I want to download V12 BUT I see there are 2 versions, one without codecs and one with. The one without is approx 650Mb the other is over 1000Mb.

Without wanting to sound daft can someone please explain what the real limitations are of one over the other. Will the no codec version not play any music at all for example? I doubt I need ALL codecs under the sun (or do I  ), perhaps just for wma, wmv, m4a, mp3 and avi. Are these individually downloadable?

My dilema is this: I have very limited bandwidth, at least for the time being. Perhaps it would work out cheaper to get the no codec version and just get the codecs I need?

All input welcome!!

Thanks

It has nothing to do with whether you need them or not. You need them.

The no-codec version is for countries whose licensing might require it.

While the NO codec version fits on a CD and takes less time to download. You can upgrade to the DVD version later. There are no differences in the OS.

The Mint Welcome screen has a tag if you want to upgrade to the DVD version after installation.

Hope that helps

Actually it doesn't...

CD version, DVD version... I thought it was all the same just with out the codecs.

Beyond ont being able to play music and videos, what other differences are there? Or rather, what are the limitations of the CD version?
