Yesterday I removed Xubuntu and installed Ubuntu 32-bit on this box. I installed the restricted extras but didn't do the updates while installing. This box has 2 GB memory. The installation, which went slowly, was successful. It installed Unity 2D and, on rebooting, everything seemed to work fine. My first impression is Unity 2D is no slower and much more polished and stable than Xubuntu on this machine. I didn't benchmark but my impressions are extremely valuable to me :P. It still isn't as fast or usable as Ubuntu 10.04 (which I've been customizing since 7.04).
