here goes.

I need a big favor... I am new to linux and if someone could answer this for me before i spend weeks trying to figure it all out would be wonderful.

wwiionline.

if someone could dl it and run it under wine to see if it works and tell me the comparison frame rate they get on there windows partition would be wonderful but i don't expect that...

i am sure someone here has hl2 installed on ubuntu and windows though. So before i attempt wwiionline (the greatest sim ever made) =D I would be most appreciative to someone who would mind running fraps or something while they run the video css test under both windows and ubuntu to see how well the MINIMUM fps compares... cause thats all i care about =)

would this be possible for anyone ???

thanks so much!! id give you a hug if you'd do that but that might be out of my realm of possibilities =)

ps i have a 5950 ultra with a gig of ram and a athlon64 3400...

okay, I can somewhat understand about asking about wwii online, however Half Life 2? I think there have been tons of posts on the forums beforehand with people giving comparisons, but there should be quite a few on the rest of the net as well. From what i've heared, the frame rate is comparable. Did you try looking on the application database at winehq.org ? Here is the link for ww2 online http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=2053 which people say run just as good as on windows, though that was with an older version of wine and for hl2, http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=2890 . As I recall, there is a guide for getting hl2 to run with wine, however, Cedega has amazing support for steam and relase fixes everytime steam upgrades to break it. Check out the app db at www.transgaming.com

thanks for the response!!

is there any chance that wwiionline would run better in wine than windows?? any chance at all?? or the min fps be higher if on average it is lower still...???

its the only game i play and having windows for that is just so dumb.. :(

thanks for the help though, as usuall ubuntu prevails =)

Well, the guy at the app DB said it runs as good on linux as it does on windows, so I would guess that even if the min fps was lower, it wasn't low enough to bother mentioning. Theoretically, wine should not make it run any faster or slower (take a look at debunking WINE myths). Your system seems powerfull enough that even if there was a speed drop, it would not be a significant one. I can't imagine anyone who's already taken the time to record the min fps, usually in a benchmark you take a look at the average FPS, as thats the important bit. If you are duel booting, why not run the test yourself (find the exe on your windows partition and run with wine) and post the results so others who are looking for the same info will know. If you're not duel booting, well, good luck finding someone that run ww2online with linux, and is willing to do a benchmark. Perhaps if the ww2online has an official forum, that would be a better place to ask?
