since we have dapper rolled out ...coould we modify the color theme on this forum to a more orangish, or something that corresponds to the default dapper theme rather than the current pure brown....????

We have not yet decided if we will change the color theme.

Actually, we tend to match the forum to the official ubuntu.com site, not the distro graphics. The official site looks very much like the current forum theme. If we were going to change it to match even further, the elements other than the header and footer would take on the beige color they are using for backgrounds.
But as ubuntu-geek has said, we haven't decided.

hmm...that make sense too...
the left side brown is not matching with any desktop theme. top and bottom are fine since we have the browser-header/footer between the desktop and the content...
in your spare time would you be trying to change the side browns to a more darker color to see if its worth even considering... normally sites have a dull offwhite to put more emphasis on the main content...but...
extreme contrast cases: its like this...
black in yellow(long dist reading) [eg: recommended exit speed in a highway)
but the opposite,
yellow in black ...(comfort short distance reading)...[thats why they print the ad-brochures in dark colors with vibrant prints...have a look at oil paintings...esp fruits painted on a dark background (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://candle-sets.com/galary_paint/P3250230-2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.artmall2000.com/art_products/art_large.asp%3Fprodid%3D73%26cat%3DGrapes%2520and %2520Fruits&h=425&w=640&sz=96&hl=en&start=83&tbnid=ArfeA7c8dP8cVM:&tbnh=89&tbnw=135&prev=/images%3Fq%3Doil%2Bpainting%2Bfruits%26start%3D63% 26ndsp%3D21%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26clien t%3Dfirefox%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:unofficial%26sa%3DN)...very pleasing to the eye...]
and different combinations would serve different purpose... greenish tint provides lowest strain to the eye (average wavelength/energy in VIBGYOR - whilte light spectrum...etc] thats why there are more thinking nerds looking over lush green scenary....:)
the brown color makes the general white more pronounced in terms of contrast and that strains the eyes for people like me who spend a lot of time hanging around here...this combination is good for recognising the webpage from along distance...but may blow the eyes, if too long, at close range...
anyway, if you like, i will consult a couple of my profs in my school (human factors specialist...) and see what they suggests...
just my 2 cents..
