SPEED BOOSTING TIPS WANTED HERE!

My Ubuntu SCREAMS so fast, it makes me wonder why I ever used XP. I feel as whough MY EYES HAVE BEEN OPENED. I'd like to share 3 simple steps you can take to keep ubuntu so snappy, your windows using friends will feel sick with envy.

1. This thread by poofyhairguy (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=85917&highlight=k7+kernel) is the first thing you should do after installing. Take advantage of your modern hardware! Get a decent speed boost here!

2. This thread by WackToMack (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=140920&highlight=remove+unnecessary+packages) Will clean packages up some. A nice touch for a responsive apt. Also, try removing all unnecessary lines in /etc/apt/sources.list. For some reason, Synaptic and apt-get seem quicker when I do this.

3. This (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=179540) thread by PingunZ and this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=87798&highlight=disable+ipv6) one by SlowJet will DEFINITELY speed up your Firefox. I'm talking Firefox that's so fast, I went back to regular firefox because FasterFox was SLOWER than regular Firefox with these improvements.

I've mentioned these fine authors and thank them. I'll edit this list if people leave their own "Speed Boost" tricks, including howtos on benchmarks and so on. Speed is the key here.
