Semi-scrub at Ubuntu. Looking to transfer completely from windows. Played with lnux distros in the past, so i know a bit on terminal commands, synaptic, packages, yada yada. Stumbling onto a few problems.

First up, nvidia drivers. Version 173 is installed right now. Something tells me these arent the most up to date.

So im wondering how I can go ahead and update these to crank out a little extra performance and whatnot (for use with the windows necessities. ie WoW, TF2 and games in general).

Ive read a few places that also in updating, i can get past the external monitor issues ive been having (laptop hooked up through hdmi to monitor. getting it to work is usually harder than it needs to be).

Might as well ask what else people would suggest doing to increase performance and speed in ubuntu.
