View Full Version : [ubuntu] 4TB RAID Partition Missing

Hey,

So a while ago with the upgrade to 10.04 my 4TB RAID 1 partition stopped mounting at boot, I had to open GParted and let it scan the drives before it would mount (weird).

Now with the upgrade to 11.10 the same partition does not mount at all, I cant get it to mount by toggling the raid flag for the partition in GParted and them running

mount /dev/mapper/sil_bgadejajfgbb1 /some/locationThis technically works (as in I can list the content of the drive), but after doing this my system becomes massively unresponsive and only updates the screen once every 15 seconds or so. Unmounting the drive stops this happening.

If the raid flag is not toggled in GParted, then dmraid does not discover any partitions (it's not the mounting the fails, there is nothing to mount) as shown below.

Any advice would be awesome, I have a fair bit of Linux experience, but have no idea where to start with this one !

Minor update: I think the unresponsiveness was caused by a bad drive that was not part of the RAID array.

Still, any idea how to get this to mount automatically ?

Sorry to dig up an old topic but I still have no solution for this.

I have done a bit more testing though and worked out that if I recreate the raid device with the cards POST interface gParted will see the 4TB disk just fine, it will also create a partition table on it and after rebooting it will still see that table.

When creating a partition though it appears to go through the process and completed, an entry for the partition is created in /dev/mapper. The odd thing is that after a reboot this entry is missing and only the disk is visible in /dev/mapper but gParted still sees the partition on the disk (with an error because it's somehow missing)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm pretty much lost with this now.

Right I changed my search terms and found this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1719850&page=2 following the advice and adding the ppa to update dmraid the drive now mounts perfectly. :D
