I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 on VMware Workstation using "Easy Install" and for some reason it has decided to give me text mode when I log in by default.

How can I (1) start the GUI and (2) configure Ubuntu so it automatically boots into GUI mode permanently?

Thanks,

It turns out I didn't need to. When I rebooted for the second time it took me into the GUI automatically.
